- Revenue exceeded the FactSet consensus by nearly 15% and adjusted EPS beat by $0.03, while adjusted EBITDA increased 81% yr/yr to $47 mln, producing a 29% margin. Adjusted gross margin expanded three points to 78%, helping BB exceed the Rule of 40 for a second consecutive quarter.
- QNX revenue increased 27% to a record $80.3 mln, adjusted gross margin reached 87%, and adjusted EBITDA rose 41% to $29 mln. Q2 produced record design-win value, first-half wins exceeded every prior full fiscal year, and Coretura’s selection of Alloy Kore represented the largest design win in QNX history. However, BB did not update its previously disclosed $950 mln royalty backlog.
- Licensing revenue surged 235% to $22.1 mln and generated $20 mln of adjusted EBITDA, accounting for a meaningful portion of the quarterly upside. Q3 licensing guidance falls to $6 mln, explaining much of the expected sequential revenue decline and limiting the read-through from the headline beat.
- Revenue increased 2% to $60.9 mln, but adjusted gross margin contracted five points to 61% and adjusted EBITDA declined 18% to $8 mln. ARR increased 4% to $221 mln, while DBNRR slipped to 91%; FY27 segment revenue and EBITDA guidance were reduced to $260-$270 mln and $50-$58 mln, respectively, amid second-half geopolitical and contract-timing uncertainty.
- Operating cash flow reached $29.3 mln and free cash flow totaled $28.1 mln, leaving BB with $447 mln of cash and investments and $247 mln of net cash. FY27 operating-cash-flow guidance increased to $115 mln from approximately $100 mln, supporting QNX investment, share repurchases, and selective M&A.
Briefing.com Analyst Insight
The report strengthens BB’s long-term QNX thesis but presents a more nuanced near-term earnings picture than the consolidated beat suggests. Record QNX revenue, expanding margins, accelerating design wins, and Alloy Kore’s commercial validation indicate that higher software content per vehicle is beginning to improve the platform’s economics. However, licensing revenue is expected to normalize sharply in Q3, while declining Secure Communications margins and retention metrics introduce additional uncertainty. The muted stock response therefore reflects questions about how much of Q2’s upside is repeatable rather than skepticism toward the raised annual outlook itself. The next tests are QNX royalty conversion, additional Alloy Kore wins, Secure Communications stabilization, and execution against the $115 mln operating-cash-flow target.
