Dell’s AI Engine Is Firing on All Cylinders After Blowout Q2 and Big Guidance Raise

Dell (DELL +4%) is trading higher today after reporting a huge beat-and-raise with its Q2 (Jul) results last night. Dell delivered its largest EPS beat in any quarter over the past five years, while revenue jumped 57.7% yr/yr to a record $46.97 bln, well above expectations. The real eye-opener was the company's upside guidance for Q3 (Oct) and FY27, with Q3 revenue guided to $49 bln at the mid-point, implying roughly 80% growth and coming in well above analyst expectations. Dell also raised its FY27 outlook substantially, including lifting the mid-point of its AI-Optimized Servers revenue guidance to $74 bln from $60 bln.

  • AI infrastructure: Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) revenue surged 89% yr/yr to a record $31.8 bln, ahead of prior guidance for roughly 75% growth. AI server momentum accelerated, with record AI server orders of $60.9 bln, record AI server revenue of $16.4 bln versus prior guidance of $15.5 bln, and ending backlog reaching $95 bln. Dell has booked more than $130 bln in AI server orders over the past 12 months.
  • Broader infrastructure: The AI buildout is increasingly benefiting Dell's traditional infrastructure businesses as customers modernize data centers for both AI and non-AI workloads. Traditional Servers and Networking revenue surged 122% yr/yr to a record $10.5 bln, while Storage revenue increased 26% to a record $4.9 bln. Dell expects ISG revenue to grow roughly 145% in Q3, including $19 bln of AI server revenue.
  • Client Solutions: Client Solutions Group (CSG) revenue grew 20% yr/yr to $15.0 bln, in line with prior guidance, with demand exceeding available supply. Commercial revenue increased 22% to a record $13.2 bln, while consumer revenue rose 7% to $1.8 bln. Large enterprise customers continue to refresh aging PC installed bases, while more cost-sensitive customers extending upgrade cycles are creating an increasingly attractive longer-term refresh opportunity. Dell expects CSG Q3 revenue to increase roughly 15%.

Briefing.com Analyst Insight

Dell delivered an exceptionally strong quarter, with the combination of a massive EPS beat, record infrastructure results, and an unusually strong Q3 outlook leaving investors with little to criticize. The most important takeaway is that the AI opportunity continues to expand at a pace that is exceeding expectations. The increase in FY27 AI-Optimized Servers revenue guidance to $74 bln from $60 bln is particularly significant because it suggests management is becoming more confident that the current AI infrastructure spending cycle will remain durable. Importantly, the strength is no longer confined to AI servers. Traditional Servers and Networking grew 122%, while Storage increased 26%, indicating that broader data-center modernization is gaining traction as customers upgrade infrastructure to support both AI and conventional workloads.
