- Reported revenue increased 14.2%, while organic growth was 13.7%, representing MDT’s strongest quarter in nearly eight years excluding the pandemic period. An extra selling week contributed approximately $570 mln, or roughly seven percentage points of growth, but underlying performance was still broad, with Neuroscience up 9.3% organically, Medical Surgical up 10.2%, and Diabetes up 14.9%.
- Organic revenue increased 18.9%, led by 88% growth in Cardiac Ablation Solutions and mid-teens growth in Cardiac Rhythm Management. CAS surpassed $2 bln in trailing revenue, grew 139% in the U.S., gained nine percentage points of U.S. market share, and expanded its domestic Affera installed base by more than 35% sequentially.
- MDT received an expanded CE Mark indication for the Affera Mapping and Ablation System and Sphere-9 catheter to treat ventricular arrhythmias, extending the platform beyond its existing commercial opportunity. A U.S. ventricular-tachycardia pivotal trial is underway, providing another potential growth catalyst.
- MDT’s approximately $700 mln strategic investment in Cornerstone Robotics provides distribution rights for the Sentire surgical system in select markets outside the U.S., expanding its robotics portfolio without acquiring the company. Meanwhile, Hugo’s purposeful U.S. launch is underway, and cumulative global procedures are expected to exceed 50,000 by fiscal year-end.
- MDT will invest up to $80 mln in Pi-Cardia, expects to become the exclusive global distributor of FDA-cleared ShortCut in 2027, and gains an acquisition option for up to $210 mln upfront plus potentially meaningful earn-outs. FY27 guidance also incorporates a $50-$150 mln currency headwind, tariffs, increased M&A, the extra selling week, and a full year of Diabetes, even though MDT intends to complete that business’s separation before fiscal year-end.

The quarter provides stronger evidence that MDT’s acceleration extends beyond a single cardiovascular product cycle. Affera is gaining share rapidly, but double-digit growth in Diabetes, Medical Surgical, monitoring, and several neuroscience categories demonstrates broader portfolio participation. The remaining debate is earnings conversion: adjusted operating profit rose 14.9%, yet operating margin expanded only 10 bps to 23.7%, and management raised only the bottom of its EPS range as investment, tariffs, acquisitions, and mix absorbed some revenue upside. Comparisons will also become more demanding once the extra-week benefit disappears, while the planned Diabetes separation could require revisions to reported guidance. The decisive checkpoints are underlying growth after normalizing for calendar effects, continued Affera share gains, returns from the Cornerstone and Pi-Cardia investments, execution of the Diabetes separation, and stronger operating leverage.
