Twilio Gets the Message Across with Q2 Beat, Raises FY26 Outlook

Twilio (TWLO +27%) is rallying after delivering an impressive Q2 beat and a sizable increase to its FY26 outlook, fueled by broad-based strength across its communications platform and accelerating AI adoption. Twilio, which provides tools that let businesses add phone calls, text messages, video, and email to their apps without building the underlying infrastructure themselves, reported record Q2 revenue of $1.50 bln, up 22% yr/yr (+17% organic). Management cited encouraging trends across 1H26, prompting it to raise its full-year organic revenue growth outlook to +13.0-13.5% from +9.5-10.5%, while reported revenue growth guidance increased to +18.0-18.5% from +14-15% previously.

  • Strong demand: Revenue growth was driven by robust customer volumes and new customer additions, helped by the launch of Twilio's new Conversations layer and Twilio Console. The self-service channel delivered revenue growth of more than 30%, while independent software vendor (ISV) revenue increased more than 25%.
  • Broad product strength: Messaging revenue climbed 28% yr/yr, supported by strong customer volumes and continued growth in WhatsApp and RCS. Voice revenue accelerated to more than 20% growth, benefiting from both higher usage and software add-ons, including triple-digit growth in Branded Calling and Conversational Intelligence. Software add-on revenue also increased more than 25%, led by Verify.
  • Customer expansion: Twilio's Dollar-Based Net Expansion Rate improved to 116%, reflecting customers continuing to expand usage of the platform and extending the steady improvement seen over the past several quarters.
  • AI transformation: Twilio continues evolving beyond its legacy messaging API business into a broader AI-powered customer engagement platform, with voice emerging as a key growth driver. Self-service voice revenue grew more than 50% yr/yr, while larger ISVs are increasingly embedding Twilio's voice AI capabilities into autonomous customer engagement workflows. Management highlighted Atlassian (TEAM) as one example, with Twilio's voice AI integrated into its newly launched customer service management platform.

Briefing.com Analyst Insight

Twilio delivered one of its strongest quarters in years, pairing robust execution with a meaningful guidance increase that signals management is seeing sustained momentum rather than a one-quarter surge. Particularly encouraging is that growth is becoming increasingly diversified. Messaging remains healthy, but voice is now accelerating even faster as AI adoption drives new use cases, supporting Twilio's transition into a broader customer engagement platform. The improving 116% net expansion rate also indicates existing customers are increasing spending at a faster pace, a key sign that platform adoption continues to deepen. Investors have been waiting for evidence that Twilio's AI investments would translate into accelerating financial performance, and this quarter provides one of the clearest indications yet that the strategy is working. With guidance moving sharply higher and multiple growth engines firing simultaneously, Twilio appears well positioned to sustain its improving growth profile into 2H26.
