Napco Security Systems surges as recurring revenue and equipment recovery drive strong Q4 (NSSC)
Napco Security Technologies (NSSC) is surging higher after its Q4 report exceeded expectations and showed that double-digit recurring-service growth is being complemented by a rebound in equipment sales and substantial operating leverage. The results were amplified by tariff refunds, but the underlying performance was still healthy, with record quarterly revenue, stronger hardware demand, recurring-service gross margins above 90%, and an increased dividend reinforcing confidence in the company’s cash-generating model.
  • Reported Q4 gross margin expanded to 61.3% from 52.8%, although tariff refunds contributed approximately 600 bps to the improvement and about $0.09 per share to earnings. Excluding that benefit, gross margin was approximately 55.3%, still representing meaningful underlying expansion, while adjusted EBITDA increased 44.3% to a record $20.6 mln and margin reached 36.8%.
  • Recurring service revenue increased 12.9% to $25.3 mln and maintained gross margins above 90%. It represented approximately 45% of Q4 revenue, while its prospective annual run rate reached approximately $103 mln based on July results, up from roughly $94 mln one year earlier.
  • Equipment revenue increased 7.7%, providing evidence that hardware demand is recovering after the distributor destocking and project-timing issues that pressured fiscal 2025. Management highlighted strong door-locking demand and a 36% increase in intrusion-product sales, primarily reflecting stronger StarLink fire-communicator shipments.
  • FY26 free cash flow increased to $59.2 mln, representing a 29.3% margin. NSSC ended June with approximately $137.6 mln in cash and marketable securities and no debt, providing ample capacity to cover the accrued $16 mln litigation settlement while investing in growth and evaluating accretive acquisitions. The quarterly dividend was also raised 13.3% to $0.17 per share.
  • The central issue moving forward is whether NSSC can sustain underlying gross-margin improvement after the tariff-refund benefit rolls off. Investors should also monitor recurring-service growth, continued StarLink and door-locking momentum, and the timing of a more meaningful recurring-revenue contribution from the MVP cloud-based access-control platform.

Briefing.com Analyst Insight

The strongest takeaway is that NSSC’s earnings model is becoming more balanced, with its high-margin recurring base continuing to compound while equipment sales return to growth. Although the tariff refund materially enhanced reported profitability, underlying gross margin still improved, and the sharp increase in adjusted EBITDA indicates that the quarter was not merely an accounting-assisted beat. The prospective recurring-revenue run rate above $100 mln provides visibility, while stronger equipment sales expand the installed base that can support future service subscriptions. The next test will be whether hardware growth, recurring additions, and margin discipline remain intact once the one-time tariff benefit disappears. Progress from MVP, sustained StarLink demand, and continued free-cash-flow conversion will determine the durability of NSSC’s FY27 earnings growth.
