Broadcom moves higher as reported AI financing package signals massive demand pipeline (AVGO)
Broadcom (AVGO) is trading higher after Bloomberg reported that the company is in talks with lenders to raise more than $60 bln through a special-purpose vehicle for an AI chip financing deal, with a possible $60-$70 bln senior-secured tranche and roughly $30 bln of junior debt potentially lifting the total package toward $100 bln. Investors appear to be treating the preliminary proposal - reportedly benefiting Anthropic and potentially other AI customers - as evidence of a much larger deployment pipeline, consistent with management's description of AI demand as "simply insatiable," Q2 AI semiconductor bookings above $30 bln against $10.8 bln shipped, and Q3 AI semiconductor revenue guidance of $16 bln.
  • Customers are placing orders well ahead of delivery because AI deployments require long lead times across wafers, HBM, power, networking, and data-center infrastructure, extending AVGO's visibility into 2027 and 2028. While bookings do not translate one-for-one into guaranteed revenue, the nearly three-to-one relationship between Q2 bookings and shipments demonstrates substantial forward demand.
  • AVGO guided Q3 revenue to $29.4 bln, including approximately $20.5 bln from Semiconductor Solutions and $16 bln from AI semiconductors, up more than 200% yr/yr. AI would therefore represent about 54% of consolidated revenue and nearly 80% of semiconductor revenue.
  • AVGO has highlighted multi-year commitments involving Google (GOOG), Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta (META), plus two additional AI customers expected to begin shipments in late 2026 and ramp during 2027. Those two newer customers have placed roughly $6 bln in purchase orders, though concentration and supplier-diversification risks remain.
  • AVGO previously established the AI XPV Platform with Apollo (APO), Blackstone (BX), and other investors, launching with a $35 bln transaction supporting more than one gigawatt of Anthropic capacity and targeting more than 20 gigawatts through 2028. Bloomberg's report appears consistent with, and potentially an expansion of, that strategy, but the new structure remains under discussion.
  • The company expects consolidated non-GAAP gross margin to decline to about 74% as semiconductors outgrow higher-margin infrastructure software. Management characterizes this primarily as a revenue-mix effect, while an approximately 67% operating-margin outlook indicates that operating leverage remains strong.

Briefing.com Analyst Insight

The broader implication is that financing capacity is becoming almost as important as chip supply in converting enormous AI demand into deployable infrastructure. A package potentially approaching $100 bln could accelerate AVGO's shipment pipeline, but it also raises questions about the size and duration of its guarantee, recourse provisions, customer creditworthiness, and who absorbs losses if utilization falls short. The proposal strengthens visibility beyond near-term quarterly guidance, yet it does not eliminate customer concentration, Google-related supplier-diversification concerns, or the need to convert bookings into firm revenue. The key test will be whether AVGO can use outside capital to accelerate deployment while preserving its asset-light model, consolidated margins, and disciplined balance-sheet exposure.
