KLA Corporation’s In-Line Q1 Guidance Overshadows Stronger WFE and Demand Outlook (KLAC)

KLA Corporation (KLAC) is trading lower after reporting fiscal Q4 (Jun) results last night. The semi-cap equipment maker posted a modest beat, with EPS of $1.05 above expectations and revenue increasing 15% yr/yr, or 7% sequentially, to a record $3.66 bln. However, mostly in-line Q1 guidance appears to be driving today's weakness, as elevated expectations left investors looking for a more substantial near-term outlook. That said, KLAC raised its 2026 WFE and advanced-packaging forecasts and continues to expect growth to accelerate through the second half of calendar 2026, followed by continued sequential growth into 2027.

  • Drivers: Semiconductor Process Control revenue increased 13% yr/yr to $3.26 bln, with foundry/logic representing 79% of systems revenue to semiconductor customers. Memory accounted for 21%, with HBM and increasing EUV adoption in DRAM raising process-control intensity, while PCB and Component Inspection revenue jumped 56% to $241 mln, benefiting from advanced-packaging demand.
  • Margins: Non-GAAP gross margin was 62.4%, up 20 bps sequentially but down approximately 90 bps yr/yr. A more favorable services mix and manufacturing scale helped offset tariff headwinds and elevated memory-component costs. KLAC expects fiscal Q1 non-GAAP gross margin of 62.5%, plus or minus 100 bps, essentially flat sequentially.
  • Demand: KLAC said demand signals across AI infrastructure have strengthened materially since its March Investor Day, supported by accelerating hyperscale and data-center investment, rising AI compute requirements, and broader adoption of AI-enabled applications. Customer engagement remains robust, visibility continues to improve, and customers are accelerating delivery expectations across all segments despite fab-space constraints.
  • Outlook: KLAC raised its 2026 WFE outlook, including advanced packaging, to the low-$150 bln range from more than $140 bln previously. It also lifted its advanced-packaging process-control revenue forecast to approximately $1.1 bln, up more than 70% yr/yr, while continuing to expect significant WFE growth in 2027 supported by broad-based investment across logic, memory, and advanced packaging.

Briefing.com Analyst Insight

KLAC's results suggest elevated expectations, rather than deteriorating demand, are driving today's weakness. While mostly in-line Q1 guidance likely disappointed investors looking for more upside, management's broader commentary became more constructive, including raised 2026 WFE and advanced-packaging forecasts and strengthening demand signals across AI infrastructure. KLAC expects second-half calendar 2026 revenue to increase approximately 20% from the first half as additional long-lead-time supply-chain capacity comes online, indicating supply availability remains a key constraint on the near-term ramp. Gross margin is another area of scrutiny, with the outlook roughly flat sequentially despite the anticipated revenue increase as tariff headwinds and elevated memory-component costs offset some of the benefit from greater manufacturing scale. Successful execution against the second-half ramp could reinforce confidence in KLAC's ability to sustain strong growth into 2027. Investors will also be watching whether higher volumes begin to provide greater margin support.
