- Beer net sales increased 5% and operating income rose 1%, but shipments grew 5.5% while depletions declined 0.6%, highlighting distributor restocking’s contribution. Modelo Especial and Corona Extra depletions fell approximately 2% and 5%, respectively, offset partly by Pacifico, Victoria, and Modelo Cheladas growth of 19%, 15%, and 5%.
- Beer outperformed the category by four percentage points in dollar and volume sales across Circana tracked channels; Pacifico became a top-10 brand by dollar sales.
- Distributor inventories remain below historical averages after rebuilding excessively lean stocks. Management expects normal second-half shipment patterns and closely aligned full-year shipments and depletions, noting Q2 would have exceeded internal expectations without restocking. September’s improvement reportedly extended beyond Labor Day timing, although growth was not quantified.
- Beer operating margin contracted 160 bps to 39.0% as marketing and other SG&A outweighed favorable fixed-cost absorption and lower tariff expenses. Second-half margin is expected at 34.5-35.5%, with marketing around 10% of sales and above 11% in Q3. Selective pricing remains near the low end of the long-term 1-2% range, but realized Q2 price/mix was roughly flat amid mix headwinds, incentives, couponing, and portfolio repositioning.
- Wine and Spirits sales increased 17% and depletions grew 10.2%, supported by Kim Crawford and Mi CAMPO. Operating income recovered to $6.1 mln from a $19.8 mln loss, aided by tariff recoveries and restructuring savings.
- FY27 beer sales guidance remains -1% to +1%, with operating margin of 37-38%. Veracruz’s opening shifted to early FY28, deferring approximately $75 mln of annualized depreciation and a 90-bp margin headwind; extensive commodity and currency hedging provides near-term cost protection.

STZ’s results support a stabilization thesis, but shipment-led growth still exceeds underlying beer demand. Management attributes September’s acceleration to stronger execution and marketing, yet declining Modelo and Corona depletions show the recovery remains incomplete. Higher investment is constraining profit growth even as share gains improve. The operating test is whether sustained depletion growth can replace restocking while preserving margins ahead of FY28’s Veracruz depreciation burden.
