SoFi Technologies banks on deposit growth and cross-selling to drive stronger profits (SOFI)
SoFi Technologies (SOFI) is soaring after a sizable Q3 revenue beat, stronger profitability, and increased FY26 guidance were reinforced by an above-consensus FY27 outlook. Deposit-funded lending and deeper customer relationships underpin the acceleration, although weaker Technology Platform results and Financial Services margin compression show that operating leverage remains uneven.
  • Adjusted net revenue increased 44.4% yr/yr to $1.371 bln versus the $1.25 bln FactSet Consensus, while adjusted EPS of $0.18 exceeded $0.16 expected. Adjusted EBITDA rose 70% to $470 mln, representing a 34% margin, and adjusted net income increased 74% to $243 mln.
  • Lending adjusted revenue increased 68% to $807 mln, with a 56% adjusted contribution margin, as total originations rose 71% to $16.9 bln. Deposits increased $5.8 bln sequentially to $51.3 bln, supporting funding costs 145 bps below warehouse facilities and approximately $745 mln in annualized interest savings. Net interest margin expanded 16 bps sequentially to 6.14%.
  • Members increased 35% to 17.1 mln and products rose 44% to 26.7 mln, with products per member reaching 1.56 versus 1.47 a year earlier. Existing members opened 51% of new products, while Financial Services revenue increased 25% to $525 mln, including $153 mln from the Loan Platform Business. However, contribution margin declined to 50% from 54%.
  • Technology Platform revenue fell 24% to $87 mln following a major client’s departure, although revenue increased 18% excluding that customer; contribution margin contracted to 16% from 28%.
  • Management’s estimated personal-loan net charge-off rate excluding late-stage delinquent-loan sales and including recoveries improved 30 bps sequentially to approximately 3.4%, aided by underlying performance and average-loan growth.
  • FY26 adjusted revenue guidance increased to $5.04 bln from $4.75-$4.85 bln, with adjusted EBITDA of $1.66 bln and adjusted EPS of $0.61. The modest one-cent EPS increase reflects a 22% tax assumption versus mid-teens originally.
  • FY27 targets of $6.40 bln adjusted revenue and $0.90 adjusted EPS exceed respective FactSet consensus estimates of $5.98 bln and $0.82, implying 27% revenue growth and 48% EPS growth. Adjusted EBITDA is projected to increase 35% to $2.24 bln.

Briefing.com Analyst Insight

SOFI’s expanding deposit base and cross-selling capabilities are strengthening lending economics and creating additional opportunities for fee monetization. The FY27 outlook anticipates slower revenue growth alongside higher EBITDA and net income margins, making efficient scaling increasingly important. Sustaining that progression requires disciplined underwriting, continued deposit inflows, and better profitability across Financial Services and Technology Platform. Credit deterioration, higher funding costs, or persistent segment margin pressure could weaken earnings conversion even if customer acquisition remains strong.
