Adjusted sales increased 4.2% to $6.58 bln, near the $6.61 bln consensus, with 3.3% organic growth. GAAP sales increased 1.0%, reflecting a different comparison that includes manufactured PFAS products.
- FY26 adjusted EPS guidance is now $9.10-$9.15, above the $8.94 FactSet consensus. Previous guidance of $8.80-$8.95 becomes $8.95-$9.10 under the new reporting basis, making the comparable midpoint increase $0.10. Adjusted total sales growth remains above 4.5%, implying roughly $25.4 bln, broadly consistent with expectations, with organic growth above 3.5%.

- Safety & Industrial led with 7% organic growth and a 300-bps margin increase to 30.1%. Transportation & Electronics organic growth was just 0.5%, with margin declining 90 bps despite semiconductor and data-center strength. Consumer organic sales declined 0.2%, although margin improved.
- Amazon’s (AMZN) warrant covers approximately 3.2 mln shares tied to $6 bln of cumulative sales over seven years and other milestones, rather than guaranteed purchases. MMM is deploying EBO technology with Microsoft (MSFT) and AWS, testing with four additional hyperscalers, doubling internal capacity, and acquiring approximately 4.7% of GSEO to support manufacturing scale.
- Q3 adjusted free cash flow was $1.2 bln versus approximately $0.5 bln of GAAP operating cash flow, while year-to-date adjusted free cash flow was flat at $3.1 bln. Consumer electronics and auto production remain soft, but aftermarket sales improved. FY26 assumptions include approximately $185 mln of oil inflation fully offset by pricing.
Briefing.com Analyst Insight
The strongest evidence of operational progress is industrial growth translating into higher margins, rather than the accounting-assisted headline EPS upgrade. Safety & Industrial’s performance supports the productivity thesis, but weaker electronics profitability shows that improvement remains uneven. Optical connectivity could broaden growth, although manufacturing expansion and customer adoption must produce returns before the opportunity materially changes earnings. Sustaining progress requires continued pricing discipline, better working-capital conversion, and profitable innovation while managing stranded costs and litigation/PFAS cash obligations.
