McCormick Q3 Has Some Flavor, but Investors Want More Organic Growth

McCormick (MKC) is trading lower despite reporting a Q3 (Aug) earnings beat with upside revenue while reaffirming FY26 guidance. Revenue rose 17.4% yr/yr to $2.02 bln, marking MKC's strongest reported growth in any quarter over the past five years, although the headline growth was significantly aided by the company increasing its stake in McCormick de Mexico to 75% from 50%. The bigger takeaway was improving organic trends across the portfolio, particularly in EMEA and Asia Pacific, while the Americas showed early signs of stabilization. MKC continues to face a challenging consumer environment, with softer CPG and QSR demand, lower QSR traffic, and the Cyclospora outbreak weighing on volumes.

  • Demand pressures: Softer CPG and QSR demand weighed on volumes, with the Cyclospora outbreak affecting the US and EMEA and lower QSR traffic creating additional pressure. MKC said these headwinds were partly offset by strong Asia Pacific performance, where new product launches and limited-time offers with QSR customers supported growth. Noncommercial channels, retail, foodservice, and independent operators also continued to show momentum.
  • Unilever deal: MKC reaffirmed that its planned combination with Unilever's Foods business remains on track to close by mid-2027. The transaction, announced in March, is expected to create a global flavor-focused company with approximately $20 bln of revenue, excluding India and other businesses not included in the transaction. The deal provides a potentially significant strategic catalyst, but investors will likely remain focused on execution and the path to closing over the next several quarters. This marks the third consecutive quarter in which McCormick exceeded consensus estimates for both adjusted EPS and revenue.
  • Stock Price: The stock has remained in a general downward trend in 2026, leaving investors focused on whether improving organic momentum can translate into a more durable earnings recovery ahead of the company's planned combination with Unilever's Foods business.

Briefing.com Analyst Insight

MKC delivered a decent quarter, with the headline revenue beat and reaffirmed FY26 guidance providing some near-term support to the shares. The more important development was the improvement in organic trends, particularly across EMEA and Asia Pacific, while the Americas showed early signs that targeted initiatives are beginning to gain traction. That said, the quarter was not without trouble spots. Flavor Solutions volumes came in slightly below internal expectations, CPG and QSR demand remains soft, and the US consumer continues to exhibit value-oriented behavior. The 17.4% revenue growth rate also overstates the underlying momentum given the consolidation of McCormick de Mexico. With the stock already in a general downward trend in 2026, investors will likely need to see continued improvement in organic volume growth and evidence that US consumer trends are stabilizing before sentiment can materially improve.
