Accenture (ACN) is sharply higher today after beating expectations in its Q4 (Aug) report this morning. EPS of $3.29 beat expectations, while revenue increased 6.2% to $18.68 bln, also nicely above expectations. ACN guided FY27 EPS to $14.39-14.81, roughly in line with expectations, while revenue is expected to increase 3-6% in local currency following 5% growth in FY26. The strong move appears to reflect stronger confidence that AI is becoming a growth driver rather than a disruption risk, supported by accelerating Consulting growth, stronger bookings and progress converting AI demand into revenue.
- Bookings: New bookings increased 5% in local currency to $22.2 bln after declining 3% in Q3, producing a 1.2 book-to-bill versus 1.1 on a trailing basis. Managed Services bookings reached a record $12.8 bln, or 1.4 book-to-bill. Importantly, management said the large deals delayed from Q3 were not responsible for Q4's improvement and remain expected during FY27. Fixed-price work, including outcome-based contracts, now exceeds 65% of bookings.
- Growth mix: Growth accelerated broadly, with Consulting revenue increasing 7% in local currency to $9.3 bln, up sharply from just 1% growth in Q3, while Managed Services increased 7% to $9.4 bln. All three geographic markets grew 7%, while every industry group posted positive growth, led by Communications, Media & Technology at 11%.
- AI conversion: AI demand is increasingly converting into broader work, with large-scale reinventions, the technology ecosystem and data/AI among Q4's primary growth drivers. Nearly 100 additional clients initiated their first advanced AI work during Q4, bringing the FY26 total above 400. Revenue with ACN's eight emerging AI/data partners more than doubled in FY26, while bookings more than tripled.
- Outlook: The 3-6% local-currency revenue growth outlook includes an expected 2.0-2.5% inorganic contribution. Management said discretionary spending has not meaningfully improved, with the high end assuming stable-to-slightly improving conditions and the low end allowing for deterioration. Pricing was lower in many areas during Q4 amid continued intense competition, although ACN still expects 10-30 bps of adjusted operating-margin expansion. Management also expects hiring to continue in FY27, but at a slower rate partly due to AI-driven productivity gains.
Briefing.com Analyst Insight
This was an encouraging report from ACN, particularly as shares have been weighed down by concerns that AI could disrupt traditional consulting economics. Q3 had reinforced those concerns, with Consulting growth slowing to just 1% and bookings declining, but Q4 showed a much stronger picture as Consulting growth accelerated to 7%, bookings improved and AI-related work continued to broaden. Management also noted higher revenue per employee as AI improves delivery productivity, while fixed-price and outcome-based work now represents more than 65% of bookings. Recent moves including the Faculty acquisition and Anthropic partnership further strengthen ACN's position across enterprise AI implementation, evaluation and safety. While the FY27 outlook still implies relatively modest organic growth and pricing competition bears watching, the quarter provides stronger evidence that AI is becoming a demand and productivity tailwind rather than simply a disruption risk.
