[BRIEFING.COM] Stocks are reclaiming a chunk of yesterday's weakness, with the S&P 500 (+0.5%), Nasdaq Composite (+0.4%), and DJIA (+0.8%) charting session highs just before midday.
The DJIA's outperformance is partly due to its limited exposure to the semiconductor trade, which is under pressure after a higher opening. The PHLX Semiconductor index is down 1.1%, keeping the top-weighted information technology sector (-0.1%) below its baseline.
Additionally, many of the DJIA's banking and financial names are outperforming today. Elsewhere in the financials sector (+0.9%), Robinhood Markets (HOOD 106.15, +11.05, +11.62%) and Coinbase Global (COIN 187.99, +15.64, +9.07%) are among the top-performing S&P 500 components as Bitcoin continues to surge this week.
Meanwhile, the materials sector (+2.3%) leads all sectors as precious metal prices continue to climb, while Moderna (MRNA 147.35, +14.03, +10.52%) leads the health care sector (+1.7%) higher after giving back some of Wednesday's monstrous gain yesterday.
Crude oil is modestly lower for the day, while Treasury yields are slightly higher across the curve.
