[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (+0.4%), Nasdaq Composite (+0.4%), and DJIA (+0.9%) are firmly higher to start the morning.
The opening action is relatively unsurprising at the sector level, with the energy sector (-1.1%) struggling as oil moves sharply lower while the broader market posts solid gains. The communication services sector (+2.3%) leads the advance as Alphabet (GOOG 327.85, +8.76, +2.75%) and Meta Platforms (META 607.72, +12.53, +2.11%) reclaim some of last week's slog.
The consumer discretionary sector (+1.2%) also outperforms even though Tesla (TSLA 309.82, -3.21, -1.03%) continues to move lower following its earnings release last week.
Meanwhile, the information technology sector (-0.2%) holds a modest loss, as a 1.1% slide in the PHLX Semiconductor Index weighs against a solid start for software names. The iShares GS Software ETF is up 3.5%.
