[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (+0.1%), Nasdaq Composite (-0.2%), and DJIA (+0.5%) are mixed lower this morning as the high-profile tech takes a step back after yesterday's rally, though strength in the broader market tilts higher.

The information technology sector (-0.4%) is a laggard this morning, though semiconductor stocks have already reclaimed the bulk of their opening weakness, with the PHLX Semiconductor Index now flat after an early loss. Software stocks, however, are off to a tougher start, with the iShares U.S Expanded Tech-Software ETF down 1.5%.

Losses are more modest elsewhere, while six S&P 500 sectors trade higher.

The energy sector (+1.2%) is an early standout amid this morning's surge in oil prices, with WTI crude hovering around the $87 per barrel mark.

The materials sector (+1.4%) holds the widest gain as precious metal prices rise this morning, while the utilities sector (+1.2%) also outperforms.
