Mega-cap strength leads as broader participation improves
Dow -41.97 at 51134.90, Nasdaq +202.77 at 27414.67, S&P +35.95 at 7758.77

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (+0.4%) and Nasdaq Composite (+0.7%) are higher just before midday, while the DJIA (-0.1%) remains modestly lower. Solid gains across select technology and mega-cap stocks continue to provide much of the support, though participation has improved across the broader market since the open.

Ten S&P 500 sectors currently hold gains, a significant improvement from earlier levels, though decliners still outpace advancers by a slim margin on both the NYSE and Nasdaq.

The communication services sector (+1.0%) leads the advance as Meta Platforms (META 745.64, +17.56, +2.41%) continues to enjoy its status as the market's mega-cap darling in recent weeks following the release of its Muse AI agent. The Vanguard Mega Cap Growth ETF is up 0.7%.

The information technology sector (+0.5%) is another source of index-level support despite a weaker showing from semiconductor stocks today. Software stocks are faring considerably better, with the IGV trading firmly higher and returning to its August highs.

Elsewhere, buying interest has broadened enough to leave the real estate sector (-0.2%) as the only group in negative territory. That improvement is also reflected in the S&P 500 Equal Weighted Index (+0.2%), which has strengthened from its early levels even as mega-cap stocks remain the primary driver of the major averages.
