[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (-1.3%) trades on its low, slipping below its 50-day moving average (7706), with eight sectors holding losses and technology (-2.6%) at the bottom of today's leaderboard.
The Nasdaq (-2.0%) underperforms due to the tech-heavy focus of the index while the Dow (-0.4%) outperforms, withstanding some of today's selling pressure. In fact, just over half of the components of the price-weighted average trade in positive territory, but that does not include the three highest priced listings—Goldman Sachs (GS 868.36, -23.55, -2.64%), Caterpillar (CAT 744.45, -28.33, -3.67%), and Microsoft (MSFT 534.08, -9.38, -1.73%).
On the upside, UnitedHealth (UNH 392.90, +15.14, +4.01%) is the best performer in the Dow, followed closely by Merck (MRK 147.21, +5.23, +3.68%) and Amgen (AMGN 427.36, +14.52, +3.52%). Fittingly, the health care sector (+2.4%) is today's best performing group.
