Dow Slides ~515 Points as Financials Drag, Verizon Surges; Index Down ~1.1% WTD

[BRIEFING.COM] The Dow Jones Industrial Average (-1.05%) is down about 515 points on Friday, good enough for second place amidst a flurry of selling activity into the weekend.

A look inside the DJIA shows that American Express (AXP 344.75, -13.75, -3.84%), Visa (V 323.66, -8.14, -2.45%), and 3M (MMM 152.40, -3.98, -2.55%) are underperforming.

Meanwhile, Verizon (VZ 43.82, +4.01, +10.07%) holds firmly atop the average.

The DJIA is down -1.11% week-to-date.

Also, at the top of the hour, Baker Hughes (BKR 55.24, -1.49, -2.63%) announced a weekly U.S. rotary rig count of 546, +2 w/w and -36 yr/yr.
