[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (-1.3%), Nasdaq Composite (-1.6%), and DJIA (-1.0%) are on the retreat, approaching session lows reached just after the open.
The information technology sector (-1.9%) holds the widest loss, while weakness in mega-cap names seats the consumer discretionary (-1.5%) and communication services sectors (-1.7%) firmly below their baselines.
The Vanguard Mega Cap Growth ETF is down 1.5%, though weakness across the market as a whole has the S&P 500 Equal Weighted Index (-1.0%) only modestly outperforming the market-weighted S&P 500 (-1.2%).
While not quite as wide as the losses in mega-cap names, smaller-cap stocks also face pressure today. The Russell 2000 is down 1.0%, and the S&P Mid Cap 400 (-0.9%) fares similarly.
Breadth figures reflect the scope of today's retreat, with decliners outpacing advancers by a greater than 3-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and a greater than 2-to-1 margin on the Nasdaq.
