Stock Market Update

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (+0.3%), Nasdaq Composite (+0.5%), and DJIA (+0.3%) are off of their session lows following a broadening in sector strength. 

While several sectors oscillate between modest gains and losses, the information technology (+0.8%) and consumer discretionary (+0.5%) sectors have stayed above their flatlines with outsized gains compared to the rest of the market. 

Meanwhile, the energy sector (-1.3%) holds a widening loss as crude oil prices have decreased $0.76 to $62.50, a decrease of 1.2%. 

A federal judge dismissed President Trump's $15 billion defamation suit against The New York Times for violating court rules regarding brevity, though an edited version of the lawsuit can be filed next month.
