Small-cap stocks fare better
Dow -35.93 at 44137.71, Nasdaq -83.02 at 20969.18, S&P -21.95 at 6307.99

[BRIEFING.COM] The DJIA (-0.1%) leads the major averages as it approaches its flatline, while the S&P 500 (-0.4%) and Nasdaq Composite (-0.4%) are further in negative territory.

Sector strength remains little changed, as only the materials (+0.6%), consumer discretionary (+0.5%), and real estate (+0.2%) sectors trade in positive territory.

Small-cap stocks are weathering today's broad-based losses better than their larger counterparts. The Russell 2000 (+0.1%) has resurfaced above its flatline, while the S&P Mid Cap 400 (-0.3%) and Vanguard Mega Cap Growth ETF (-0.6%) maintain losses. The Russell 2000 notably outperformed the market in yesterday's action as well, opening the week with a 2.0% gain.
