S&P 500 remains in record teritory
Dow +30.37 at 44724.28, Nasdaq +35.87 at 21092.45, S&P +10.60 at 6373.95

[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market opened to modest but broad-based gains that pushed the S&P 500 toward yesterday's intraday high, which also marks a record for the benchmark index. 

Eight sectors trade in positive territory, though no sectors are up more than 0.5%.

The Materials sector (+0.3%) is an early standout, despite a majority of its components trading in negative territory. The sector benefits from Newmont Corporation (NEM 65.83, +4.32, +7.0%) trading higher after beating EPS expectations by $0.27, with revenues rising 20.8% year-over-year. 

In an interview at the White House, President Trump remarked that the U.S. "has a fifty-fifty chance, maybe less than that, of making a deal with the EU," citing a need for the EU to reduce its reciprocal tariff rate of 30%.
