Stock Market Update

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (flat) hovers near its unchanged value, while the Nasdaq Composite (+0.6%) outperforms and the DJIA (-0.6%) lags.

The communication services sector (+0.1%) entered positive territory as shares of Alphabet (GOOG 184.87, +2.06, +1.1%) tick higher.

The technology sector (+1.5%) remains the only other sector in positive territory, with its mega-cap components outperforming the market and making up for broad-based losses in other sectors. 

Mega-cap strength is a notable trend today, as the Vanguard Mega Cap Growth ETF sports a healthy gain of 0.7%. This is enough to keep the market-cap weighted S&P 500 flat for the day, while the S&P 500 Equal Weighted Index is down 0.6%.
