Stock Market Update

[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market's methodical tick upwards now has the major averages in positive territory for the day. 

There is a slight outperformance in mega-cap stocks, as the Vanguard Mega Cap Growth ETF sports a modest gain of 0.3%, though the Russell 2000 (0.2%) and the S&P Mid Cap 400 (+0.1%) are also slightly up today.

Sector action remains mixed, with five sectors currently trading in the green. The energy sector (-1.5%) is the only sector with a gain or loss of more than 1%.

Breadth figures show advancers outpacing decliners by a roughly 7-to-6 ratio on the Nasdaq, while decliners still hold a slight advantage on the NYSE. 

Tariff headlines have done little to rattle the markets today, though President Trump announced the intention to impose secondary tariffs on Russia of up to 100% starting September 1 if Russia hasn't agreed to a ceasefire or end of war with Ukraine.
