[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (+0.1%) is fighting to remain above its flat line with help from five sectors, including energy (+0.9%).
The energy sector had a poor showing in May, but it is starting June on a solid note. With today's gain, the group is already up 2.1% for the month versus a 0.7% month-to-date gain in the S&P 500. Crude oil is contributing to the newfound strength, as it rises $1.12, or 1.8%, to $63.64/bbl with its May high (64.19) in sight after yesterday's news that OPEC+ is planning an output increase for July that will be smaller than expected.
APA (APA 17.87, +0.54, +3.1%) is the leading performer in the sector while Exxon Mobil (XOM 103.93, +0.88, +0.9%) is keeping pace with the sector.
