[BRIEFING.COM] The major averages have continued inching higher with the S&P 500 (+1.0%) trailing the Nasdaq (+1.4%) and the Russell 2000 (+1.4%).
Just about every sector has taken part in today's advance, but energy (-0.9%) has been unable to keep pace with the broader market due to ongoing pressure on the price of oil. WTI crude is down $3.11, or 4.5%, at $65.40/bbl today and is now down more than $10/bbl from its high that was reached on Sunday night (78.40).
Even with today's loss, the energy sector is still up 5.5% for the month, which leaves the group only behind technology (+1.5%; +6.5% month-to-date) on the June leaderboard.
