[BRIEFING.COM] The major averages remain closer to their lows than their highs, though small caps and mid caps are faring better than the broader market with the Russell 2000 and S&P Midcap 400 both down around 0.4%.
All eleven sectors are on track to end the week in negative territory with ten down at least 1.0% and five down 3.0% or more from last Friday's settlement levels. The energy sector (-0.2%) is among today's outperformers, but it remains the weakest sector of the week, having given up 4.9% since last Friday.
Today's outperformance in the energy sector comes as crude oil rises $0.61, or 1.0%, to $61.81/bbl, returning to little changed for the week.
