Stocks open lower amid growth concerns

[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market opened lower across the board. Major equity indices show declines ranging from 

Nine of the S&P 500 sectors are lower by more than 1.0%. The discretionary (-3.8%) and technology (-2.4%) sectors are among the weakest performers. The health care sector shows the slimmest loss, down 0.5%.

Earlier, Chicago PMI fell to 44.6 in April (Briefing.com consensus 46.0) from 47.6.

Personal income rose 0.5% in March (Briefing.com consensus 0.4%) and personal spending was up 0.7% (Briefing.com consensus 0.4%). The PCE Price Index was flat in March (Briefing.com consensus 0.0%) and the core-PCE Price Index was also flat (Briefing.com consensus 0.1%).

Pending home sales rose 6.1% in March (Briefing.com consensus -0.2%).
