[BRIEFING.COM] The market continues to build on losses.

A short time ago, CNBC reported that tariffs will only be removed if there is a "statistically significant reduction" in fentanyl-related deaths.

Part of China's retaliatory measures in response to President Trump's tariff actions include export controls on several companies, including Leidos (LDOS 132.62, +3.42, +2.7%) and General Dynamics (GD 256.11, +2.11, +0.8%).

Both names have outperformed today, along with the broader defense sector. Lockheed Martin (LMT 463.75, +11.81, +2.6%), L3Harris (LHX 212.37, +4.67, +2.3%), and Northrop Grumman (NOC 479.43, +6.02, +1.3%) are other top performers.

The industrial sector shows a 2.0% decline despite gains in the defense industry.
