Only four of the 11 S&P 500 sectors trade up with staples (+0.8%), utilities (+0.2%), and health care (+0.2%) showing some of the largest gains, reflecting a risk-off vibe in the market due to their defense nature.
The technology sector is the worst performer, down 0.7% from yesterday. NVIDIA (NVDA 112.12, -1.63, -1.4%) is a notable laggard in the sector, along with other chipmakers. The PHLX Semiconductor Index (SOX) shows a 2.2% decline.
