Stocks open to muted action
Dow -76.56 at 43351.46, Nasdaq -221.16 at 19302.84, S&P -32.52 at 5980.71

[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market opened to muted action before selling picked up. There's some hesitation in play to see if participants are inclined to buy after Friday's retreat.

Thus far, market breadth reflects more negative action. Decliners lead advancers by a 3-to-2 margin at the NYSE and by a 2-to-1 margin at the Nasdaq. Also, the equal-weighted S&P 500 trades 0.2% lower and eight of the 11 S&P 500 sectors show declines.

The consumer discretionary (-1.1%) and technology (-0.9%) sectors show the largest declines, reflecting some selling interest in their mega cap components. On the flip side, the health care (+0.6%) and consumer staples (+0.3%) sectors show the largest gains.

Treasury yields were higher than Friday earlier, but buying picked up in recent trading. The 10-yr yield, which hit 4.45%, sits at 4.41% now.
