[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market has started the Tuesday session with modest losses in the Dow (-0.2%), Nasdaq (-0.2%), and S&P 500 (-0.2%) while small caps are showing some early relative weakness with the Russell 2000 down 0.7%.
Seven sectors are among the early decliners with utilities (-0.8%), financials (-0.5%), communication services (-0.5%), and health care (-0.5%) leading the early weakness while materials (+0.5%) and energy (+0.3%) outperform. Top-weighted technology continues searching for early direction, trading little changed.
Treasuries have inched up off their opening lows, but the early range in that market has been pretty narrow, leaving the 10-yr yield up four basis points at 4.53% ahead of Fed Chairman Powell's testimony before the Senate Banking Committee atop the hour.
