Stock Market Update

[BRIEFING.COM] The major indices continue to trade up, building on opening gains. The Nasdaq Composite is 1.2% above Friday's close. The S&P 500 sports a 0.7% gain.

Only two S&P 500 sectors are lower -- financials (-0.7%) and health care (-0.5%) -- while the information technology (+1.8%), consumer discretionary (+0.9%), and communication services (+0.7%) sectors show the largest gains.

Market breadth also reflects broad buying interest in response to Friday's retreat. Advancers lead decliners by a 3-to-2 margin at the NYSE and by a 4-to-3 margin.
