[BRIEFING.COM] The major averages look to close near session highs, with the S&P 500 (+1.6%) needing to add just 0.1% to return to its unchanged level for the month.
Only the consumer staples sector (-0.5%) remains below its flat line as investors rotate into more growth-oriented sectors.
The utilities sector (+0.1%) also lags the broader market with its slight gain, though the health care sector (+0.7%) holds a solid gain as Eli Lilly (LLY 967.60, +43.24, +4.68%) advances further this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the information technology (+2.6%) and communication services (+2.6%) sectors hold identical gains as the session nears its close. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD 245.60, +12.06, +5.16%) is a top performer, trading higher ahead of its finacial analyst day tomorrow.
