[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (flat), Nasdaq Composite (flat), and DJIA (-0.2%) have moved very little since the open as seven S&P 500 sectors trade within 0.3% of their flat lines.
The positive exceptions to that trend are the energy sector (+0.5), which trades higher as oil prices have increased $1.49 (+2.6%) to 58.72 per barrel, and the health care sector (+0.4%), which is supported by a strong gain in Intuitive Surgical (ISRG 537.12, +74.38, +16.07%) after beating top and bottom line expectations.
Meanwhile, the consumer discretionary sector (-0.7%) moves lower as Amazon (AMZN 218.89, -3.14, -1.42%) sees some selling pressure after yesterday's advance, and the utilities sector (-0.4%) faces a modest loss in most of its components.
While there are some notable stock-specific moves in response to earnings, subdued performances across the mega-caps keep the major averages near their opening levels.
