[BRIEFING.COM] The major averages trade in a relatively tight range as ten S&P 500 sectors continue to hold gains.
Only the consumer staples sector (-0.6%), which advanced on Friday amid some safe-haven buying interest and continued post-earnings strength from PepsiCo (PEP 147.50, -2.58, -1.72%), trades lower.
Meanwhile, the financials sector (+0.7%) trades higher ahead of the earnings reports from several major banks this week. Citigroup (C 96.32, +2.39, +2.54%), Goldman Sachs (GS 783.32, +18.96, +2.48%), and JPMorgan Chase (JPM 307.30, +6.41, +2.13%) all trade higher ahead of earnings tomorrow, with JPMorgan Chase also benefitting from reports that the company will make substantial investments in companies that it deems crucial to U.S. interests.
