[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market open to mixed, yet muted, action. The S&P 500 (flat), which bounced off its 50-day moving average (5,506) after the open, the Nasdaq Composite (-0.3%), and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (+0.1%) have traded slightly higher or slightly lower than prior closing levels.
There's not a lot of conviction on either side of the tape after yesterday's sharp declines. Advancers lead decliners by a roughly 4-to-3 margin at the NYSE and decliners lead advancers by the same margin at the Nasdaq.
Losses in the mega cap space have limited index performance somewhat. NVIDIA (NVDA 106.73, -1.30, -1.2%) shares are an influential standout, building on yesterday's sharp losses after receiving a DOJ subpoena in the escalating antitrust probe, according to Bloomberg.
Factory order jumped 5.0% in July (Briefing.com consensus 4.5%) following a 3.3% decline in June.
JOLTS Job Openings totaled 7.673 million in July following a revised count of 7.910 million in June (from 8.148 million).
Treasury yields moved lower in response. The 10-yr note yield was at 3.83% just before 10:00 ET, but sits at 3.78% now.
