Consumer discretionary sector turns lower
Dow -76.53 at 42236.47, Nasdaq -29.54 at 18090.03, S&P -4.24 at 5733.93

[BRIEFING.COM] The standing of the major indices remains mixed, but improved from before as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 have moved off their earlier lows.

Today's weakest area so far is the consumer discretionary sector (-0.9%). That has a lot to do with Amazon.com (AMZN 185.04, -2.93, -1.6%) being negative and Tesla (TSLA 257.66, -2.80, -1.1%) as well. Tesla had been a relative strength leader at today's start.

The majority of sector components, however, are lower, including Carnival (CCL 17.88, -0.66, -3.6%). The cruise line operator reported earnings this morning, topping fiscal Q3 EPS and revenue estimates, but guiding its Q4 EPS outlook below consensus.
