More S&P 500 sectors trade higher despite index performance

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 remains near its worst level of the day, trading 1.3% lower.

More S&P 500 sectors trade higher now compared to earlier in the session despite the lack of improvement in index performance. The consumer staples (+0.8%), real estate (+0.4%), utilities (+0.3%), and health care (+0.2%) sectors lead the pack.

The information technology sector, which makes up 31% of the index, shows the largest decline by a wide margin, down 3.2%. The energy sector is the next worst performer, down 2.5%, amid falling oil prices ($70.65/bbl, -2.92, -4.0%).
