[BRIEFING.COM] The Vanguard Mega-Cap Growth ETF (MGK) sported a 1.1% gain earlier, but is now down 0.1%. The fading action there, which includes NVIDIA (NVDA 123.23,-0.28, -0.2%) rolling into negative territory, has contributed to the fading action in the broader market, although the broader market continues in relatively good form.
The equal-weighted S&P 500 is up 0.8% and so is the Russell 2000. Market breadth, meanwhile, has a decidedly favorable disposition with advancers leading decliners by a better than 2-to-1 margin at the NYSE and Nasdaq.
Separately, the consumer discretionary sector (-0.3%) qualifies as a laggard today, but that distinction comes with an asterisk. The vast majority of components, including CarMax (KMX 78.70, +4.20, +5.7%), which reported earnings results this morning, are noticeably higher.
The asterisk for the consumer discretionary sector's performance is attached to Amazon.com (AMZN 190.20, -2.33, -1.2%) and Tesla (TSLA 252.43, -4.59, -1.8%) -- its two largest components -- both of which are lower.
