[BRIEFING.COM] The market-cap weighted S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite may not be showing signs of any real weakness, but there is weakness beneath the index surface.

Decliners lead advancers by an 8-to-5 margin at the NYSE and by an 11-to-8 margin at the Nasdaq.

The information technology (+0.7%) and communication services (+0.3%) sectors are today's best performers .Many of the usual suspects are accounting for the latter. NVIDIA (NVDA 124.46, +3.59, +3.0%), Microsoft (MSFT 431.45, +2.28, +0.5%), Meta Platforms (META 569.34, +6.01, +1.1%), Alphabet (GOOG 163.85, +0.21, +0.1%), and Netflix (NFLX 723.16, +0.90, +0.1%) are all higher.

The energy sector (-1.0%) is today's weakest area. Remarkably, WTI crude futures ($70.78, 00.78, -1.1%) and Brent crude futures ($73.97, -0.50, -0.7%) are lower following the news that Hezbollah fired a missile at Tel Aviv (the missile was intercepted) in a sign of the escalating conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
