Small cap stocks outperform, moves still limited in front of influential events

[BRIEFING.COM] The Dow Jones Industrial Average moved below its prior close in recent action, down 0.1%. The S&P 500 (+0.1%) and Nasdaq Composite (+0.1%) maintained slim gains.
Small cap stocks are outperforming their larger peers today, leading the Russell 2000 to trade 0.7% higher.
Still, moves in either direction have been limited for most stocks as investors wait on more influential events today, including a $16 billion 20-yr bond auction at 1:00 p.m. ET and the release of the Minutes for the July 30-31 FOMC meeting at 2:00 p.m. ET.
