[BRIEFING.COM] The major indices drifted slightly lower over the last half hour. 

Losses in the semiconductor space have weighed on index performance after chip equipment maker Applied Materials (AMAT 205.45., -6.53, -3.1%) reported earnings. The PHLX Semiconductor Index (SOX) shows a 0.7% decline. 

This price action has contributed to the underperformance of the S&P 500 information technology sector, which is also struggling with losses in Apple (AAPL 224.30, -0.41, -0.2%), Microsoft (MSFT 417.79, -3.24, -0.8%), and Broadcom (AVGO 164.46, -1.67, -1.0%). NVIDIA (NVDA 123.61, +0.75, +0.6%) is an exception in the space.
