[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market opened to somewhat mixed action. Gains in the mega cap space have boosted the S&P 500 (+0.3%) and Nasdaq Composite (+0.5%), but market breadth is negative and the Dow Jones Industrial Average sports a 0.4% decline.
Decliners lead advancers by a 3-to-2 margin at the NYSE and by a 4-to-3 margin at the Nasdaq. Downside moves are relatively limited, though. The equal-weighted S&P 500 sports a 0.2% decline.
Apple (AAPL 228.12, +0.30, +0.2%), NVIDIA (NVDA 132.36, +4.15, +3.2%), Meta Platforms (META 533.41, +4.09, +0.8%), Amazon.com (AMZN 199.97, +0.65, +0.3%), and Alphabet (GOOG 191.69, +1.21, +0.6%) have provided integral support to the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite so far.
This price action has also propelled the information technology (+0.7%) and communication services (+0.5%) sectors to the top of the leaderboard among the 11 sectors.
The energy sector shows the steepest loss, down 0.7%, amid falling oil prices ($81.76/bbl, -0.57, -0.7%).
