[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market opened mostly higher on this final day of the holiday-shortened week. Market participants are digesting the June Employment Report, which reflected some softening in labor market conditions.

Gains in the mega cap space have supported index performance so far. Apple (AAPL 224.50, +2.97, +1.3%), Microsoft (MSFT 466.28, +5.52, +1.2%), Meta Platforms (META 523.67, +13.70, +2.7%), and Alphabet (GOOG 191.08, +3.70, +2.0%) are among the standouts in that respect.

There's a negative bias driving action under the index surface, but losses are relatively limited. The Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETF (RSP) sports a 0.5% decline.

The S&P 500 energy sector shows the largest decline among the 11 sectors thus far, down 1.1%. Meanwhile, outperforming mega cap names have propelled their respective sectors to the top of the leaderboard.

Treasury yields moved lower in response to the data. The 10-yr note yield is down four basis points to 4.32%.
