Small cap stocks lead decline after recent gains
Dow -133.13 at 40456.01, Nasdaq -25.93 at 17331.95, S&P -8.02 at 5451.08

[BRIEFING.COM] The market moved lower over the last half hour. The major indices all trade at or near session lows.

Small cap stocks are leading the decline after outperforming in recent weeks. The Russell 2000 shows a 0.9% decline, which leaves its gain this month at 9.4%. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 is down 0.2% in July. 

Weakness in regional bank stocks and energy shares has contributed to the performance of the small cap index. This price action has also contributed to the loss in the S&P Regional Banking ETF (KRE), which trades down 1.8%, and the S&P 500 energy sector, which trades down 1.5%.
