Equal-weighted S&P 500 trades lower despite positive breadth

[BRIEFING.COM] There hasn't been much up or down movement at the index level in recent trading. The major indices are near session highs.
Notably, the equal-weighted S&P 500 trades lower, down 0.1%, despite a nice move up in the market-cap index (+0.4%) and positive market breadth. Advancers lead decliners by a 4-to-2 ratio at the NYSE and by a 3-to-2 margin at the Nasdaq.
Five of the 11 S&P 500 sectors are lower. The energy sector is the worst performer by a wide margin, down 2.1%. The heavily-weighted financial sector is another laggard, down 0.6%.
