Market turns lower at index level, but many stocks maintain gains

[BRIEFING.COM] The major indices turned lower over the last half hour. Downside moves coincided with some mega caps turning lower while the "rest" of the market holds up better. The equal-weighted S&P 500 still sports a 0.2% gain.
The market-cap weighted S&P 500 sports a 0.1% decline. The information technology (-0.3%), communication services (-0.2%), and utilities (-0.04%) sectors are the worst performers today, leaving the sectors higher by 36.5%, 39.8%, and 19.6%, respectively, in 2024.
Only one S&P 500 sector --materials (-1.8%) -- is set to close 2024 with a decline. Six sectors are higher by more than 15% this year.
