Treasury yields hold steady after safe-haven trading
Dow -398.70 at 42593.69, Nasdaq -219.54 at 19540.98, S&P -57.95 at 5912.61

[BRIEFING.COM] The market continues to move slowly higher, but major indices still show declines ranging from 0.9% to 1.2%.

Treasury yields are holding steady now after dropping earlier in safe-haven trading with stocks under pressure and several foreign markets closed tomorrow (or closing early) for the New Year's holiday. U.S. markets are open for a full day of trading on Tuesday, but will be closed Wednesday.

The 10-yr yield is at 4.55% and the 2-yr yield is at 4.26%.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which spiked on Friday, is up another 8.3%, or 1.36 points, to 17.31. This reflects increased hedging against volatility over the next 30 days, which some think could be accented with more concerted efforts to take capital gains and rebalance investment portfolios.
