[BRIEFING.COM] The major indices extended opening losses in recent trading. The S&P 500 sports a 1.4% decline and the Nasdaq Composite shows a 2.1% loss. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down more than 400 points from yesterday.
The stock market still sits on a slim gains this week despite downside pressure today. The DJIA is 0.2% this week and the S&P 500 shows a 0.4% gain since last Friday.
Many stocks are participating in a broad retreat. Decliners lead advancers by a 9-to-2 margin at the NYSE and by a 7-to-2 margin at the Nasdaq.
